The landmark season features nearly 600 events, a new Julia Boyd biography, and a £10M funding milestone securing the venue's future
Wigmore Hall has unveiled the full details of its 125th Anniversary Season, marking a major milestone in the life of one of the world’s leading recital venues. Running from 9 September 2025 to 31 July 2026, the season promises nearly 600 concerts and events, spotlighting many of the finest soloists and ensembles on the international stage.
Among those appearing are pianists Martha Argerich, Mitsuko Uchida, Yunchan Lim, and Sir András Schiff; vocalists Dame Sarah Connolly, Lise Davidsen, Jakub Józef Orliński; and composers including Pulitzer Prize-winner Rhiannon Giddens and Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen. Actor Sir Simon Russell Beale joins pianist Lucy Parham in a theatrical portrait of Claude Debussy, exploring the composer’s life, letters and loves through words and music. Isata, Jeneba, Braimah and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Joshua Bell, Magdalena Kožená, Hilary Hahn and Midori are just a few of the additional names highlighting the season's breadth
The announcement is also accompanied by the news that Wigmore Hall has reached its ambitious £10 million Director’s Fund target, providing vital long-term financial security for the Hall’s independent future. A new £500,000 grant from the AKO Foundation will further extend the Hall’s trailblazing ‘£5 Tickets for Under 35s’ scheme – run in partnership with Classic FM – for another five years. Since its inception, the initiative has brought over 200,000 young people through the Hall’s doors.

John Gilhooly, Director of Wigmore Hall, commented: ‘This landmark anniversary season celebrates Wigmore Hall’s heritage whilst looking firmly to the future. The financial security provided by the Director’s Fund will allow us to remain artistically ambitious for years to come.’
The centrepiece of the anniversary year is a two-week festival (25 May – 7 June 2026), coinciding with the release of a new biography, There Is Sweet Music Here: The World of Wigmore Hall, by bestselling historian Julia Boyd. The festival’s performers include Igor Levit, Christian Tetzlaff, Abel Selaocoe, and Les Arts Florissants under William Christie.
The season also features a focus on British composer Rebecca Clarke, marking the centenary of her 1925 Wigmore debut. A November Focus Day will include performances and premières of Clarke’s music, alongside talks from leading scholars.
New music is central to the 125th season, with premieres of works by Sally Beamish, Sir George Benjamin, Thomas Larcher, Donghoon Shin, Rachel Portman, and more. Highlights include Martha Argerich and Stephen Kovacevich reuniting for a rare duo performance, Mitsuko Uchida presenting Beethoven’s final sonatas, and Paul Lewis offering chamber versions of Beethoven concertos.
The Wigmore stage will also welcome a wealth of vocal talent: Barbara Hannigan, Christian Gerhaher, Allan Clayton, Magdalena Kožená, and Anja Mittermüller, among others. Baritone Christopher Maltman returns to the Hall after a decade-long absence, and acclaimed academic Dame Mary Beard joins soprano Nardus Williams and lutenist Elizabeth Kenny for a special International Women’s Day programme.
Chamber music remains at the heart of the Hall’s programming, with Beethoven cycles from the Elias and Ébène quartets, the 50th anniversary of the Takács Quartet, and the return of the Leonkoro Quartet.
Tickets for concerts from September to December 2025 go on sale at 10am on 23 April via wigmore-hall.org.uk.
