The film composer collaborates with UK music charity to raise money for musicians' mental health

The magic of the Christmas season can be largely attributed to the spirit of music. Yet musicians themselves are still feeling the knock-on effects of the pandemic, with a recent study showing that 67% believe their mental health has worsened in recent years.

Today’s video of the day, 'Shelter' is a new charity video project from composer Jan Willem de With in collaboration with harpist Stefania Lo Castro and the string-playing Ayoub Sisters.

Made in support of Help Musicians UK’s subsidiary charity, Music Minds Matter, the video is supporting the charity's aim to raise a total of £11,000 between 29 November and 6 December 2022. Part of the Big Give Challenge, all donations made in this period will be doubled and go towards providing support 24 hours, 7 days a week to those in the music industry who need it.

Speaking of the project, Jan Willem de With said, ‘This film aims to bring attention to the important work Help Musicians does to help musicians across times of crisis…it reflects the idea of musicians coming together in a sheltered place’

The power of community is certainly a healing force and one that Help Musicians continues to foster. Musicians looking for support and advice can access the Music Minds Matter Explore page, as well as their ongoing peer support groups and funding for psychological support in collaboration with the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM).
