Christ Church Cathedral School invites boys aged 6-9 to attend the next ‘Chorister for a Day’ event on Saturday 3 May – offering a practical introduction to life in the Cathedral Choir

Christ Church Cathedral School in Oxford is welcoming families to its next Chorister for a Day event on Saturday 3 May at 2pm. Designed for boys aged 6 to 9, the afternoon offers a hands-on opportunity to explore the role of a Cathedral Chorister.

The event begins at the School on Brewer Street, where visiting children will meet current pupils, participate in music activities, and rehearse under the direction of the Cathedral’s music staff. The day concludes with the boys singing Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral, offering a realistic insight into what chorister life involves.

The Cathedral Choir is directed by Peter Holder, who joined Christ Church in 2024 following posts at St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Holder is widely known for his work as an organist, including at national events such as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of Christ Church, originally founded as Cardinal College by Cardinal Wolsey in 1525. The School, which educates the Cathedral’s choristers, continues to play a central role in this long-standing choral tradition.

Following a successful event in January, the School looks forward to welcoming new families in May.
