The Met: Live in HD series continues to expand

The Metropolitan Opera’s live, high-definition cinema broadcasts are continuing to grow, with 43 additional UK cinemas set to show this season’s Live in HD transmissions. The Met: Live in HD will screen 12 operas in 126 cinemas across the UK, including a new agreement with 21 Odeon outlets, 14 more Cineworld cinemas and an additional eight independent theatres.

The Met’s cinema season began on October 13 with the live broadcast of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore starring Anna Netrebko, shown in over 1900 theatres in 64 countries, including screenings for the first time in Brazil, Dubai, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Jamaica, Madagascar, Montenegro, Qatar and Serbia. Last season’s broadcasts reached an impressive audience of 3 million.

The 2012-13 cinema schedule includes Verdi’s Otello starring Renée Fleming, Thomas Adès’s The Tempest featuring Simon Keenlyside, Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito with Elīna Garanča, Verdi’s Aida with Roberto Alagna, Berlioz’s Les Troyens with Deborah Voigt, the Met premiere of Maria Stuarda starring Joyce DiDonato, and Wagner’s Parsifal with Jonas Kaufmann.
