Author:
The amiable Schubert sonata is familiar to us in this cello and piano guise, rather than the very occasional airings it receives played by the obsolescent instrument for which it was written. I would prefer a more jolly account than we are given here and, dare I say, a more committed one. The eight Schumann pieces do receive more spirited attention, with more variety of dynamic expression and tempo. The recording is full-sounding and rather forward, but with excellent tonal fidelity to both instruments.'
