It’s always a joy when a disc stops you in your tracks as though you were hearing the music for the first time. The repertory is very well served on disc, but this superb recording is as fine a one as I’ve ever heard. These young Frenchmen have just the sort of robustness the music demands, and their use of ornaments is wonderfully judicious. If you buy only one disc of early music from this month’s “Soundbites”, make it this one.FF
