The transports of delight engendered by this recording are unrelated to those of Spike Milligan's book of that title; put quite simply, it is the one that, in search of a non-seasonal selection of its genre, I shall first take from the shelf. There is no department of her art and craft of which Monica Huggett is not the mistress, and there is always grace and sensitivity in the shaping and shading of her lines.
The London Vivaldi Orchestra, making its recording debut, is impressively precise and stylish, in ideal balance with the soloist in a recording that is full of light and air. Concerto, RV353, with Huggett's violin dancing like a prima ballerina in its outer movements, has no other version in the catalogue; the other three have alternatives (though not on any single LP) but, no matter how many you may have, do n ot fail to add these transporters of delight.'
