This, the first version of these pieces to be submitted for review on CD, will be hard to surpass. I greeted it enthusiastically when it appeared on LP for both the high quality of the choral singing and the intensity and beauty of the interpretation. On CD these assets are expectedly even more in evidence and the BPO, to whom this music cannot be that familiar, support the singing worthily. Then, you would have to go far, if anywhere, to find such a truthful, finely balanced recording of a choir, the perspectives just right and the range wide without being in any way artificial.
A splendid achievement all round.'
