Gershwin's piece is delivered with splendid panache and good humour, and Grofe's harmless picture-postcard Suite is brilliantly brought to life. I think that Toscanini enjoyed these excursions into lighter fare. He conducts the Barber with great intensity and seriousness, however, and the marches burst forth with great vitality. '
