This competently sung, played and conducted performance, taken live during a tour of the work by a German company in Italy, cannot at full price challenge the hegemony of admired versions already available. Muszely is a middling Arabella, the English baritone Beresford an even-voiced but anonymous Madryka, Hammes a delightful Zdenka, the rest well routined in their roles. The sound is good, although the microphones seem rather far from the stage. No text or translation is provided, essential for an understanding of this work, and even worse, and unique in my experience of CDs, no tracking on any of the discs. '
