Really one is beginning to run out of words of praise in dealing with this Prokofiev series from Chandos. His early Sinfonietta is quite charming and should be performed more often than it is; surely it would be difficult not to like this work. The last of his symphonies, composed in accordance with post-war Soviet guidelines, is a more demanding work, but the excellent playing the SNO achieve under Jarvi rises to the challenge—the fourth movement, Vivace, is superb—and the apparently unbeatable recording skills of the Couzens team bring it all to life. Another top mark.'
