The brainchild of conductor/composer Alexander Rahbari, the Persian International Philharmonic comprise some 60 musicians of Iranian stock currently based in the West. Under Rahbari’s supervision, they set down the present two-CD programme over a one-off, nine-day gathering in Bregenz, Austria. Rahbari directs with character and sympathy throughout (and the 17-year-old Martha Khadem-Missagh is a tidy soloist in the Khachaturian), though just occasionally ensemble and intonation can verge on the decidedly dodgy. With that one major proviso, an enjoyable memento of what must have been an unforgettable experience for all involved. '
