Included among the better-known fare are Holst's setting of the West Country
Admirers of The King's Singers, and they are legion, will relish this record, which was made in Forde Abbey, Somerset, in an unreverberant acoustic. The LP's surface of my copy was almost as silent as the CD and the balance is well up to EMI's standards. I have to admit that I have a partial allergy to the King's Singers, who tend toward the precious and anaemic, devitalizing the music, and can, in full voice, sound like Sir Peter Pears on a bad day multiplied by six. However, there are only one or two examples here where I cringed. For the most part I enjoyed as well as admired the musicianship and artistry. My spirit sang for most of the day.
