Lecuona’s lightweight but engaging talents were more skilfully set out in his fairly familiar Andalucia suite than in the Danzas Cubanas, but this young Uruguayan pianist presents everything most persuasively and with a captivating delicacy. Besides his melodic fluency, Lecuona enjoyed displaying beguiling rhythms – none more teasing than in the piece entitled ‘En tres por quatro’ (‘3/4’), which is better understandable as 6/4.'
