These are CD versions of two of the concertos (originally issued in 1962) which also appeared as part of a three LP set (Philips 6768 365) reviewed by RG in September 1983. Though I agree with him that ''Grumiaux's playing is, as always, a model of true intonation'', I cannot agree that here it is ''stylish and sensitive'': on the contrary, while it is business like and has a glossy finish, it strikes me as lacking in nuance and conspicuously superficial and uncaring (except perhaps in the Adagio of the A major Concerto); and RG is unfortunately right in his comment that the support of Sir colin Davis and the LSO ''is more notable for vigour and spirit than for subtlety or delicacy''. This issue is, I suggest, more for Grumiaux-admirers than Mozart-lovers.'
