A treat for curiosity-seekers. Dufay’s L’homme arme Mass is sung one-to-a-part, with countertenor Pascal Bertin on top. Despite a promising cast, the performance is too wayward in its rhythmic details to be entirely convincing, and the four voices are not as well matched as one might have hoped. Thierry Pecou is a young French composer in his early thirties, whose ruminations on the Armed Man in all his aspects are rather better carried off by the full, mixed ensemble (eight singers). An extravagance of booklet-notes: decidedly odd, but interestingly so.'
