A listless romantic forever traversing Europe in search of regular employment, Konrad (‘Conradin’) Kreutzer (1780-1849) is a mere historical footnote now, his once-popular ballads and romances utterly forgotten, his chamber work only rarely resurrected. A pity. Both the Clarinet Quintet and Quintet for piano, wind and strings display interesting (albeit hardly earth-shattering) and democratically apportioned scoring, the Piano Quartet by turns likably robust and heartfelt. Sound but occasionally spiritless performances.'
