Kallstenius spoke of his Second Symphony (1935) as his best: it is certainly worthy but overlong. The first movement, like Sangoffer (‘Song Offering’, 1934), is rather stodgy, but there is real poetry in the central Adagio. The Dalarapsodi (1931) has a folksy charm. Not music to set the world alight.'
