This is the first recording ever made in the Chapel of Hampton Court Palace or by its choir; and though I do not know the building, I am told than one would expect the singing to have a more resonant acoustic than it has. If this is so, the reason is that the choir have been too closely 'miked'. This also exposes the singers rather unfairly, since a slight fault from any one, of them shows, for the sound is not well blended by the close recording.
All the same, the programme, based on the great festivals of the Church's year, enclosed by a joyful morning canticle by Stanford and Balfour Gardiner's
