I welcomed these stylish performances of some hardly known motets by Couperin when I reviewed the LP last May. Now comes the CD which, from the standpoint of sound, is on the whole to be preferred. On my copy of the LP the sound deteriorates towards the end of Side 1 though the recording is a pleasantly resonant one with plenty of clarity. The CD offers a greater immediacy of sound and a slightly wider perspective. The voices are just a shade clearer than they are on the LP and there is more resonance surrounding the continuo instruments. Don't be deterred from buying the LP; I doubt if you will be disappointed with it; but to get the very best from these lively and sympathetic performances the CD is the medium to go for. The informative presentation with full texts (in Latin only) included with the LP has been faithfully and legibly transferred to the CD. Strongly recommended.'
