We have come to expect recorded perfection from Chandos and if they occasionally miss that target they are often still ahead of the opposition. On this disc the oboe of Sarah Francis is perhaps a mite too prominent for much of the time, although not always so as there is a movement of emphasis apparent in some parts. The atmosphere generated in the Church of St George the Martyr, Bloomsbury is slightly swimmy and somehow the performances never seems to settle down. Perhaps this is right though, for this is all rather lightweight material.'
