Quintet for Piano and Strings |
Antonín Dvořák, Composer
Antonín Dvořák, Composer Borodin Qt Sviatoslav Richter, Piano |
Author: John Warrack
There is not really an improvement on the original LPs of this pair of performances, but the somewhat hoarse sound and the less-than-ideal balance, not to mention an occasional noise to betray the presence of an audience, should not deter those who are either resolved to collect every performance by Richter or to add the little-known Op. 5 to their shelf of Dvorakiana—or both. The performances are delightful, both scrupulous and fresh; and the character of Richter's playing with the Borodin Quartet supporting him sympathetically, make this concert an occasion well worth preserving and now transferring to the new medium.'
