Author:
These are impressive performances, as I indicated in my review of the LP disc, and being excellently recorded they sound even more impressive on CD, although no one who has rushed out to buy the LP need feel deprived. The percussion in the suite is prominent, as it should be, without being overprominent; and in the Cello Symphony the soloist (as the score implies) is first among equals rather than on a separate virtuoso plane of sound. Wallfisch's eloquent playing is beautifully controlled and sensitive and Bedford's grasp of the great work's intricate design is always steadfast.'
