I praised this set highly in December—it is desert island fare for me—and commented on the many felicities of both the playing (wonderfully fresh with Previn imaginatively flexible throughout) and the excellently balanced recording, made in EMI's Abbey Road No. 1 Studio. The sound was first class on the LPs; the CDs add a touch of extra refinement (noticeable in the transparency of the strings in the ''Miniature Overture''), and the background silence increases a sense of realism in the gently scored moments (like the introduction to the gorgeous ''Waltz of the Flowers'', with its harp roulades and velvety horns). But this is a very worthwile set in both formats. The synopsis is adequate.'
