This collection of settings of one of the oldest recorded love-poems explores its manifestations in Sephardic and Hebrew repertories, medieval monody (including Hildegard von Bingen) and among contemporary composers (such as Gramophone’s own IWGM). The cast of this ensemble of four singers naturally calls to mind another all-female American vocal quartet, and though their intonation and ensemble are not quite on a par with those of Anonymous 4, they add to their number the talented string-player, Shira Kammen. The album has something of a New Age ambience about it: take it as you find it. '
