Born in 1949, Carl Rutti has become known outside his native Switzerland principally as the composer of choral music, including the oratorio Verena, praised by MR in his review of the recent recording (Herald, 3/97). The 40-part Veni Creator Spiritus uses Tallis’s scheme of eight five-part choirs but in a most inventive way and to frequently astonishing effect. The Cambridge Singers give a virtuoso performance, as does Anne Page in the organ solos.'
