This anthology presents monophonic and polyphonic pieces specifically connected with French monarchs of the direct Capetian line (987-1328), including coronation pieces for Philip Augustus (1079), his son Louis VIII (1223) and grandson Louis IX (1226). These are wonderful voices and involving performances, even though some choices (particularly the inclusion of later polyphony) strike me as odd, both in conception and execution.'
