As I commented when reviewing the LP recently, the glory of these performances is the orchestral playing, and on CD it sounds still more lushly supportive, more robust, with a bright new paintbox of obbligato colours. The astringent sweetness of Christian Funke's violin, in fact, in Mozart's Non temer, is more than welcome on CD, as Ameling's voice now has a closer physical presence, so that the scirocco of her cantabile is at times almost overwhelming. Those who enjoy her romantic use of ornament and rhythmic contour to the end of creating a seamless garment, even in the death of Dido, will be able to wallow the more: those who dislike it may well run away in horror.'
