The Delme find the shape, structure and even the nobility of Haydn’s Emperor but the detail seems sadly lacking. The lively dotted rhythms of the first movement positively lumber along, the second movement’s anthemic refrain becomes a maudlin lament, the finale tetchy rather than turbulent. The Mozart fares better, with Farrell clear-toned and evocative.'
