Bruce Broughton, Composer
Bruce Broughton, Conductor Bruce Broughton, Composer Original Soundtrack Sinfonia of London |
Author: ptonks
It is with no disrespect to Broughton that I take the same impression from this score that most others have – that John Williams would have been proud. An interesting anomaly given that Jerry Goldsmith was originally connected. However, the on-screen ‘homage’ to Star Wars is hard to ignore as are the string and brass arrangements in cues such as ‘Robot Attack’. The Sinfonia of London truly excels in this fast-paced style, and the non-stop adventurous spirit benefits from its hearty playing. Very much a family film, the music accords to the ‘Mickey-mousing’ school of composition as dictated by the screen’s actions (an exceedingly last-minute final cut also made that approach a necessity). This release is not to be confused with an album that appeared with the film which was dominated by (largely irrelevant) pop songs. Here the packaging, notes, and sound are of a superior quality. With absolutely no sign of the club-beat mix of John Williams’s TV theme, Broughton’s infectious own theme makes a very distinguished impression. '
