Author:
I can warmly recommend this collection of Handel's most popular orchestral music, given a 'popular' yet nicely expressive treatment with James Galway in the unaccustomed role of conductor. Whilst they do not displace any of the half-dozen noteworthy recordings of Water Music and Fireworks already issued on CD, the performances on this disc bring a degree of liveliness and sparkle which many listeners will find refreshing. The recording balance is in general admirably realistic, though the harpsichord sounds a long way off and horns and trumpets sometimes seem oddly placed. A speedy ''Arrival of the Queen of Sheba'' brings the total playing time to just over 56 minutes.'
