The sleeve-note does not divulge Julia Cload's nationality, but as the record was produced in England by the late Hans Keller (who wrote the sleeve-note) she is presumably British and was his pupil. The performances are very pleasing, and gain in spontaneity because they did not need any editing. ''There is not a single second-hand shape amongst her phrasings, a single symptom of standardization'', which is perhaps going rather far, but she certainly does play with a charming individuality, every note precisely in place. Perhaps she is not wholly successful in the first movement of the G major, the one marked Allegretto innocente, but then who is? The mood of this simple movement is strangely elusive; perhaps it is easier to bring off as a string trio which was its original form. But elsewhere Cload holds one enchanted; this is a delightful first recording, and I hope there are more to come.'
