A thrusting, purposeful and vibrantly communicative triptych from this fine husband-and-wife duo. Walton's underrated Violin Sonata (written for Menuhin in 1949) comes off especially well, receiving a big-hearted, passionate performance possessing considerable character and flair. The recordings (originally released on Unicorn) have all come up admirably, Sidney Weiss's silvery, yet attractively sinewy tone captured with healthy realism.
