Already when reviewing the LP I limited myself to CD comparisons, but the CD is now even more spectacular. In sound I even prefer it to the excellent Chandos version, for the bloom and the sense of presence which I noted before are even more striking. As sound it is certainly one of the finest recordings of this superb orchestra that I have heard, and the slavonic tang and bite of Dohnanyi's readings of both works goes with ensemble of a precision long associated with this orchestra. The definition of the timpani is spectacular.'
