I wrote with enthusiasm about this record when it appeared as an LP, not only for the quality of performance and the recording but because the major Delius work, The song of the high hills, had not been recorded since Beecham did it in 1946, while the songs with orchestra had never before been put on record. The songs do tend to be almost all on the slow side but monotony is avoided by the use of three singers of the finest quality. The advantage of CD shows most clearly in The song of the high hills where the extremely soft part from the first choral entry gains from the absolute absence of any background. Against this sort of silence you can hear all this extremely soft singing to perfection.'
