For their recordings of these works (2/98) DaCapo used a Danish orchestra and Welsh conductor (Arwel Hughes); here we have a Danish director and German band. There’s little to choose between them in sound quality or performance, although Schmidt’s tempos are generally faster. Overall, I prefer Hughes, but this is still commendable.'
