Michael Oliver dealt most kindly with this release and it has transferred to CD very successfully. The original recording, made in St Alban's Church, Holborn, in February 1983, was of the analogue persuasion but any clue to that is lost in the pervading and most appropriately spacious atmosphere of this church. Even so, there is great clarity from the soloists and adequate definition from this skilled group of singers. Thomas Trotter does his best with the rather pedestrian organ in the Te Deum but it really isn't up to it. Overall it is the haunting sadness expressed in the Requiem which stays with you long after the music has ceased.'
