Author:
Boyce's eight symphonies on one CD means that they certainly are not symphonies in the classical sense and we are told that they were developed from interludes in masques and theatrical entertainments. Be that as it may, we have here a collection of lively and pleasant tunes performed with verve and style in a bright contributing acoustic. The recording (analogue) was nicely balanced by Bob Auger in the Poole Arts Centre way back in 1979. Compact Disc reveals a slightly whistly character in some of the brass and reeds and an occasional low-frequency disturbance (most people won't hear it) which has me puzzled but may be a distant door. This is pleasant music, not particularly demanding, and certainly I shall want to return to it from time to time.'
