Personality aplenty in a perky Arpeggione that stretches Schubert’s amiable attitude to almost jovial proportions. Volger’s 1724 “Hausmann” Stradivari cello is an instrument of ripe character more appropriate to the Brahms sonata though even there it blooms too forcefully in a forward, resonant recording. Contrarily, Canino’s piano seems too prominent in the overly romantic Lieder arrangements. Less effort all round might have been more effective.'
