I have enjoyed these beautiful and eloquent performances very much on LP, and was greatly looking forward to the CD reissue. A sad disappointment, I fear: in the digital remastering the sound has taken on a grainy edge, even at times a fierce glare, that makes the fuller passages (those involving high violin writing especially) very tiring to listen to. The quite thinly scored Altenberg Lieder are not much affected but many pages of the Lulu Suite are coarsened and the Op. 6 pieces are almost unendurably strident. The LP version was vastly preferable.'
