I wrote about these recordings with enthusiasm last February, and now that the CD versions have come my way I feel no urge to qualify my enthusiasm. Christopher Hogwood might well find the senstive, musicianly phrasing too sophisticated for the period (see ''Hogwood's Beethoven''—March, page 1136) but for me this contributes a lot to my feeling that these are just about the most enjoyable CD recordings available of these two works on period instruments. Strongly recommended.'
