Jakub Hrůša’s first season as Music Director sees eight new opera productions and a brand new festival exploring opera and technology

The Royal Ballet and Opera has unveiled its 2025/26 Season, marking a significant new chapter for the organisation with a host of world premieres, new commissions, and high-profile revivals across opera and ballet. It will be the first season under Jakub Hrůša as Music Director of The Royal Opera, joined by Speranza Scappucci as Principal Guest Conductor and Koen Kessels as Music Director of the Royal Ballet. Antonio Pappano is set to return to conduct the third installment of Wagner's Ring Cycle, Siegfried.
The season opens with a new production of Tosca – replacing the long running Jonathan Kent production – conducted by Hrůša who will also lead the Royal Opera’s first-ever staging of Janáček’s The Makropulos Case, a revival of Peter Grimes, and a concert of music by Bartók and Dvořák.
The Linbury Theatre will host the inaugural RBO/Shift festival, curated by Associate Director Netia Jones. The four-day event will explore the relationship between opera and technology, particularly artificial intelligence, through performances, talks and interactive experiences.
Further operatic highlights include a new staging by Barrie Kosky of Wagner’s Siegfried, Bellini's I puritani directed by Richard Jones, and two Handel operas – Ariodante and Giustino – led by directors Jetske Mijnssen and Joe Hill-Gibbins in their Covent Garden directorial debuts. There will also be a new production of Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and the Linbury Theatre will host Jette Parker Artists: Three Chamber Operas featuring music by Elizabeth Maconchy, Charlotte Bray and Elena Langer.
