Ermonela Jaho and Michael Spyres, Opera Rara’s renowned Artist Ambassadors, speak to Opera Now | Philip Venables: the eclectic composer on his new project for Dutch National Opera

In the Spring issue of Opera Now we shine the spotlight on Opera Rara's Artistic Ambassadors, the renowned soprano Ermonela Jaho and tenor Michael Spyres. The pair speak to Mark Pullinger about the ongoing Donizetti Song Project, and the joys and challenges of recording and performing rare operatic repertoire.

Also in this issue, a new series looks at smaller opera companies and their impact on communities and the education of opera singers, with the first in our spotlight being the Sussex-based Barefoot Opera.

Elsewhere, David Butt Philip discusses the role of the Emperor in Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten and Philip Venables introduces his new opera We Are The Lucky Ones for Dutch National Opera.

Hungarian composer György Kurtág turns 99 in February. German baritone Benjamin Appl writes about developing a close relationship with the composer and his upcoming recording project performing his eclectic music alongside that of Franz Schubert.

The mental health feature is written by countertenor Cameron Shahbazi, who shares his journey and ongoing project Warsaw Sessions giving an insight into a performer's internal world and complex rehearsal journey.

Our live reviews span new productions of Britten operas in the UK and the Netherlands, a roundup from Wexford Opera Festival and operas from Vienna, Versailles, La Fenice, Dresden and more.
