Welcome to Opera Now's new website!

Opera Now Magazine launched back in April 1989 to 'celebrate the visual splendor and theatricality of opera'. Its first editorial spoke of how 'Opera Now will create a forum in which ideas and opinions can be exchanged. We aim to present the best of opera now.'

Fast forward to today and many of our aims haven't changed. I am three months into life as Editor of the magazine, looking to continue opera's celebration, whilst also uncovering some of the lesser-known facets of the industry.

Our magazine covers some of today's leading operatic artists, directors, conductors and designers. It previews world premiers of international operas, discovers opera at all corners of the globe and takes readers to the edge of what opera can mean. Our in-depth features reflect how diverse cultural elements have influenced opera, including travel, history, literature, art, architecture, politics and philosophy.

As the industry faces injustice and adversity, we aim also to bring opera audiences current journalism through contemporaneous reports of productions and festivals, as well as the latest news, opinion and investigations.

Joining Gramophone as a sister title, another focus is continued review and profiling of opera recordings. As the recording world continues to evolve, such as through Apple Music's new Classical app, opera's accessibility is forever diversifying and increasing.

We look forward to welcoming you into the brilliant world of opera!
