Video of the Day: The Cathedral Choir of Christ Church Oxford perform ‘It Came upon a Midnight Clear’

Today’s Video of the Day is a performance of ‘It Came upon a Midnight Clear’ by The Cathedral Choir of Christ Church Oxford. The text was written by Edmund Sears with the music composed by Arthur Sullivan and arranged by Peter Holder. The performance was directed by newly appointed Organist (Director of Music), Peter Holder. 

Holder was sub-organist at Westminster Abbey , where in this role he played for major state occasions, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. He was recently made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. 

The Cathedral Choir of Christ Church, Oxford serves both an Oxford college and a diocese. In addition, the Cathedral Choir undertakes a regular schedule of recordings, broadcasts, and tours which have recently included visits to Canada, the USA, China, Oman, and Sweden. 2025 marks 500 years since the founding of the College (originally as Cardinal College), and 2026 marks the 500th anniversary of the Cathedral Choir and appointment of its first Organist and Master of the Choristers, John Taverner.
