The choral group performs a track from their latest album, exploring the work Orazio Benevoli

Today’s video of the day is a performance of the Agnus Dei from Missa Benevola by Benevoli and performed by I Fagiolini and The City of Musik, conducted by Robert Hollingworth.

A Roman 17th century Agnus Dei for 16 voices, the work gradually spreads itself left to right across the whole group until a surprising chromatic interruption leads to an impossibly rich ending.

Robert Hollingworth continues his series exploring the ‘Colossal Baroque’ through the dazzling sound world of Orazio Benevoli. The premiere recording of Benevoli’s four choir Missa Benevola (plus Carissimi’s moving Jephte) is released on CORO on 4 October as well as a launch concert at St-Martin-in-the-Fields that same day.
