Today’s Video of the Day is a performance of Schubert’s ‘Shepherd on the Rock’ by Carolyn Sampson and Joseph Middleton. The recording is part of their new album Schubert’s Four Seasons. The duo is joined by clarinettist Michael Collins for this song, Schubert's penultimate composition. 'Shepherd on the rock' was inspired by yodelling with this extended lied ending with the hope of a better life, with spring just around the corner and the prophetic words of 'now I shall prepare/to go a-wandering' heralding the composer's approaching death.
