The British-American composer announces her Autumn 2024 season
Composer, Freya Waley-Cohen is inviting audiences to experience her new soundscapes that are inspired by folklore, history and the natural world, Waley-Cohen collaborates with a number of artists including fellow Tanglewood alumni Sophie Baird-Daniel and the Archipelago Collective for the world premiere of a new work which celebrates the 10th anniversary of San Juan Island’s Annual Chamber Music Festival. The piece, written for septet, encapsulates the rhythms, sounds, tides and moons from the San Juan archipelago.
Ivor Nominated composer Freya Waley-Cohen is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music where she studied composition under Simon Bainbridge and Oliver Knussen. Her upcoming highlights include the world premiere of The Moon, The Moss & The Mushrooms, a piece for voice and piano to be performed by Baritone Roderick Williams and pianist Chris Glynn at the Two Moors Festival in October 2024. Waley-Cohen will also partner with The London Philharmonic Orchestra and its Principal Conductor Edward Gardner for the world premiere of Mother Tongue on 6 November 2024.
