Platoon has announced the signing of the Attacca Quartet and a recording of Ravel's String Quartet in F by the group. The American ensemble’s new album will be launched on 14 March to commemorate the composer's 150th birthday. A performance of the work at Kings Place, London, by the two-time GRAMMY award-winning quartet will also take place on the same date.

The partnership brings together a record label known for signing artists and musicians of various musical backgrounds, and a string quartet pushing the boundaries of orchestral music in both performance and music recording. The Attacca Quartet has often engaged with the worlds of electronica, video game music, and pop, while Platoon is a label that itself started out in other genres.

In recent years, the Attacca Quartet has worked with popstar Billie Eilish on her global hit album Hit Me Hard and Soft, and performing music by FINNEAS for the score of Alfonso Cuarón's Apple TV+ series Disclaimer. At the same time, Platoon has been organising projects between orchestras and artists like Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and The Police founder Stewart Copeland.

The Attacca Quartet’s music-making has alternated between celebrating established repertoire or championing works by living composers since the group’s founding at the Juilliard School in 2003. Their collaboration with Caroline Shaw on two releases, Orange and Evergreen, won the 2020 and 2023 GRAMMY awards for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, and their upcoming performance at King’s Place will see Ravel’s String Quartet in F paired with the UK premiere of David Lang’s daisy.

For Platoon, 2025 will see the launch of another partnership with the label working with King’s Place to bring a series of live events to the concert hall. The series, Platoon Presents at King’s Place, will include the Attacca Quartet’s 14 March performance as well as showcases by other artists, some internationally renowned names and some new, emerging voices, found on the label’s roster.
