A unique celebration of the byways of the piano repertoire

The 2024 Husum Festival, ‘Rarities of Piano Music’, takes place at the picturesque Schloss vor Husum in northern Germany between 17 and 24 August. Founded by Peter Froundjian in 1986, the Husum Festival has long been a melting pot of enterprising pianists and neglected music.
This year’s festival features recitals by Alfonso Soldano (including Bortkiewicz’s Lyrica nova, Op 59, 17 August), Saskia Giorgini (Liszt’s complete Harmonies poétiques et religieuses, 18 August), Christian Grøvlen (a rare outing for Sinding’s Piano Sonata, Op 91, 18 August), Patrick Hemmerlé (Godowsky’s Java Suite, 19 August), Severin von Eckardstein (including Medtner and Blumenfeld, 20 August), Clare Hammond (from Hélène de Montgeroult to Florence Price, 21 August), Matthias Kirschnereit (ranging from CPE Bach to Hans von Bülow, 22 August), Chiyan Wong (including rarities by Busoni and Ronald Stevenson, 23 August) and finally Gottlieb Wallisch (two little-heard sonatas by Schubert and a jazz-inspired second half, 24 August).
